The idea for Lasting Impressions began in the Spring of 1990. I was on hiatus from a daily television program I worked on as a writer and field director/interviewer at CHCH TV in Hamilton, ON. With my free time, I decided to attempt to write the next “great Canadian novel” and these were the first words put to paper. Ultimately, this opening chapter was not included in the final published version (2015), because as I wrote more of the novel some of the ideas did not pan out as I had expected.
